Are there betting tricks for Sharjah Cricket Stadium for T20Is?

To make an accurate cricketing prediction, you need to know what has happened in similar situations in the past. That means understanding the teams who are playing, but also knowing about the stadium where they will meet.

There have been 14 T20Is played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium before the 2021 T20 World Cup. The team batting first has won 9/14 of those matches, with one tie.

It is worth remembering this stat. If the team batting first is the outsider, the opportunity to back them to win might be too good to miss!

Of course, to find a really good bet, you will need more information than that. Remember, for every T20 World Cup match, we will also have all of the important stats about the teams and players right here.

Predictions for Games at Sharjah Cricket Stadium

All of the best Indian betting sites are included within the predictions below for games at Sharjah Cricket Stadium!

History of Sharjah Cricket Stadium

Sharjah Cricket Stadium is the oldest venue being used at the 2021 T20 World Cup. It opened in the early 1980s and hosted its first international match during the 1984 Asia Cup.

Apart from a quiet period from 2003 to 2010, it has been a venue for international cricket ever since. In the last decade, both Pakistan and Afghanistan have used Sharjah as a home ground when they have been unable to play in their own country.

Today it holds the world record for most ODIs at a single stadium (240). In recent years, Sharjah has also hosted the T10 cricket league and the final of the 2018 Blind Cricket World Cup.

Stadium characteristics

The Sharjah Cricket Stadium has been expanded over the years and can hold up to 27,000 spectators. Crowds have often been good thanks to the large Asian expat community in the UAE.

Thanks to its world-class floodlights, the Sheikh Zayed Stadium can host day-night cricket. In fact, seven of the 11 T20I World Cup matches here will be day-night games.

Games hosted at Sharjah Cricket Stadium

The last T20I in Sharjah was more than three years ago in February 2018, when Afghanistan completed a 2-0 series win over Zimbabwe. Afghanistan are the only international team to have played more than five T20Is in Sharjah.

Away from international cricket, the Sharjah Cricket Stadium was used for six matches in the 2014 IPL when India was holding political elections and didn’t want the IPL to be a distraction.

It also hosted 12 matches in the 2020 IPL, when the tournament was moved outside India because of Covid-19. Those 12 games were often high scoring, with 8/12 teams batting first making 170 or more.

Again because of Covid, Sharjah was the venue for 10 matches in the 2021 IPL that has just finished. Those 2021 fixtures were generally low scoring. Only three of the 10 teams batting first made 140 or more.

T20I records at Sharjah Cricket Stadium

It’s time to review some of Sharjah Cricket Stadium’s top moments of T20I cricket. You’ll find important statistics on the most appearances and best win rates, the highest totals, and the best bowlers and batsmen to grace Sharjah.

Most appearances and best win rates

Since 2013, Sheikh Zayed Stadium has hosted 14 T20I matches. Twelve of those games featured Afghanistan.

Afghanistan have won 9/12 T20Is in Sharjah, but the opposition has not always been strong. They have played Zimbabwe four times, Kenya three times, Scotland three times, the Netherlands once and Pakistan once.

While the Netherlands and Pakistan beat Afghanistan, Scotland lost all three of their games here.

In one of only two games not involving Afghanistan, England and Pakistan tied a match here in 2015. England made 154/8 batting first, then Pakistan replied with 154/7.

Highest Totals

Only one team has scored more than 200 in a T20I in Sharjah. Afghanistan posted 215/6 against Zimbabwe in 2016, thanks to the only T20I century ever scored here. More on that below…

The next highest score also belongs to Afghanistan. Two days before they smashed that 215, they made 187/7 – and hung on as Kenya got to 182/7 in reply.

Afghanistan also made the lowest first-innings score in a T20I here. They managed just 90 against the Netherlands in 2013.

Top Batsmen

Afghanistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad is the most prolific international runscorer in Sharjah. He has scored 408 runs in 12 innings at an average of 37 – including the only T20I century ever scored here.

Shahzad made 118* from just 67 balls against Zimbabwe in 2016. His team mate and captain Mohammad Nabi is another man to watch. He has amassed 249 runs from 11 innings in Sharjah.

Top Bowlers

Afghanistan’s captain is also close to the top of Sharjah’s bowling rankings. As an off-spinner, Mohammad Nabi has taken 10 wickets here at an average of 22.6.

Only leg-spinner Samiullah Shinwari – a travelling reserve in Afghanistan’s World Cup squad – has claimed more victims. Back in 2013 he took 12 wickets here at an excellent average of 9.25.

Shinwari is the only international bowler to have taken 5 wickets in a T20I match in Sharjah. Afghan fast bowler Hamid Hassan is the only other man to have taken four wickets in an innings.
