Seasoned IPL fans know the drill with RCB when it comes to a typical IPL season.

They generally start very well, go through a rough patch and then win important games at the end of the Group Stages to book their place in the Playoffs before…never going on to actually win it.

An ace pace bowler and a world-class spinner is a deadly partnership in any cricket and RCB certainly have that in Josh Hazlewood and Hasaranga.

PBKS have a match-winner in Kagiso Rabada but he had a poor game last time out, while Chahar isn’t in the same class as Hasaranga.

And that could prove to be the big difference because in terms of batting, they may just cancel each other out.

Liam Livingstone has had a very strong season for Punjab this year.

He’s their second highest run scorer with 315 runs and behind only the ultra-consistent Shikhar Dhawan.

He’s won this market on more than one occasion already this campaign despite often batting at number four or five which as explained in our top batsman betting guide, isn’t the best place to bat if you’re looking to be the side’s highest runscorer.

But there are three reasons why we can open an exception for Livingstone.

One: he scores so quickly that he can make up for facing less balls. Two: Punjab often lose wickets early. Three: he’s available at odds that make it worthwhile taking the risk.

Royal Challengers’ Bangalore Recent Form

Boy, did they need that.

With a game in hand on most other sides in the competition, RCB were in real trouble of slipping outside the Playoff places if they had lost to SRH. So it’s a good thing they didn’t.

And not only did they win the game but they won it so comfortably that they massively improved their net run rate in the process.

That could be incredibly significant because there’s a big chance that more than one team will end up in third or fourth place.

After a strong performance first up with the bat where they scored 192/3 in large part thanks to good knocks from Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar, it was then down to the bowlers to defend that big total.

No problem, said Hasranga de Silva, picking up yet another man of the match award after a brilliant spell of bowling where he took 5-18.

He’s proving to be a good signing is Hasaranga, who now has 21 wickets to his name for the season.

Josh Hazlewood was also good with 2-17 and is another proving to be a good signing.

Punjab Kings’ Recent Form

The Kings are down in eighth but not completely out of it, partly because they have a game in hand on quite a few teams around them in the table.

If they win their remaining three matches they could well be in the mix for the Playoffs and two wins out of three could yet do it, but is somewhat unlikely.

They were a bit unfortunate to have lost last time out.

They put in a really strong performance with 189 runs on the board but the Royals batted really well to chase that with just two balls to spare.

There were contributions from everyone in the top order with Jonny Bairstow top scoring with 56 off 40, a much-need score from the Englishman after what has been a somewhat disappointing tournament from a man with his reputation and price tag at the auction.

What ultimately cost them was how expensive Kagiso Rabada was with the ball.

He may have taken the big wicket of Jos Buttler but incredibly went for 50 runs. That’s where the game was lost.
