If Jos Buttler goes out and gets another big score to win another top batsman betting market then good on him.

He’s still the Orange Cap holder and is on course to be the first player in IPL history to score four centuries in the same IPL season.

But at bigger odds of 4. 34 you can go with the skipper Sanju Samson who looked in great touch in the last match, top scoring with 54.

Interestingly, Samson is one of those players who sometimes takes a few matches to find his best form and could be peaking just now.

As an IPL veteran, in good form and at generous odds, batting at number three which is always a good spot to bat, he’s the pick.

Punjab Kings Recent Form

A fine win over Gujarat no less has meant Punjab can still dream of a Playoff place given they’re currently sixth with five wins and five defeats.

They put in a good performance against the titans, restricting them to a low total and chasing it with ease.

What was particularly important about the chase was that they got the job done quickly to drastically improve their net run rate, which was much needed.

With the ball Kagiso Rabada took four wickets to ensure Gujarat didn’t build many partnerships while with the bat Shikhar Dhawan’s oil 62 made sure there were no wobbles in the chase.

After such a bright start, the Royals are now on a two-match losing streak.

It’s not disastrous by any means and they’re still third at the time of writing but they need to be sure they don’t lose a third in a row and also lose all their momentum in the process.

We predicted a couple of weeks ago that they might struggle once Jos Buttler stopped scoring so many runs and so it proved.

It all looked very easy for them when he was scoring fifties and centuries but when he got just 22 against KKR the other day, no-one else (bar Samson) really stood up and they posted a below par score.

But on a brighter note skipper Sanju Samson played a fine knock and is coming into form.

They’ll need him at his best, assuming they make the Playoffs.

Venue & conditions

It’s been hard work working out what’s par score at the Wankhede, the venue for this match.

In the last four matches, there have been low(ish) scores of 152 and 146, both chased easily, but also two scores of 195, one of which was chased down by Gujarat against SRH.

So first innings scores have varied quite a bit but what we do know is that chasing seems to be the way to go here.
