Let’s have a look at today’s Afghanistan vs Namibia betting odds. Afghanistan need to win this one to keep hopes of a semi-final alive. But Namibia have shown plenty of fight and if they chase, their odds may look very big indeed. So they’re the bet.
There are also cricket betting tips on the toss winner and I’ve picked a top Namibia batsman to round things off.
There was plenty to like about Afghanistan’s performance against Pakistan. They fought extremely hard with the bat late on, putting on an excellent seventh-wicket partnership between skipper Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib. Curiously, both ended up on 35 not out.
There were some interesting tactics by them batting. Clearly they decided there was no point accumulating runs because sooner or later, Pakistan’s brilliant bowlers would get them out.
So they went for their shots while the ball was hard and despite losing wickets at a steady rate, at least they kept on scoring quickly.
With the ball, Rashid Khan was simply brilliant. Once again. He was held back to after the 10th over mark which was a gamble, but he made it count once he got on.
That Pakistan were big outsiders before Asif Ali’s four sixes tells you that on another day, it could have been Afghanistan’s day.
Whatever happens from hereon, Namibia can be extremely proud of their achievements. Not many people would have given them too much hope of even making the World Cup and once they did, they carried on the good work.
Sure, Scotland are probably the weakest team in the tournament but it’s worth remembering that Namibia went into that game as outsiders and delivered.
That win owed a lot to a first-over hat-trick from Ruben Trumpelmann. He’ll never bowl another over again like that in his whole life.
But there was also good bowling from Jan Frylinck and JJ Smit, who also played his part with the bat.
David Wiese had a solid rather than spectacular game with both bat and ball this time round but carries on being their main man.
Namibia Likely XI
Williams, van Lingen, Green, Erasmus, Wiese, Smit, Frylinck, France, Loftie-Eaton, Trumpelmann, Scholz.
Venue & conditions
Scoring has been very hard work here at Abu Dhabi. Teams have struggled to get to even 130 and this one should go the same way.
This is where Namibia beat Scotland, so they’ll have good memories of playing here. Afghanistan have won two tosses so far and batted first on both occasions, which goes against what everyone else is doing.
And with Namibia preferring to chase, what they did against Scotland, they’ll want to field first. So both teams will probably get what they want at the toss.
Time for my Afghanistan vs Namibia betting tips for the winner market! Afghanistan are a far better side than Namibia. More experienced, better plans, better players and with a truly world-class one in Rashid Khan, while the likes of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi have played plenty of IPL cricket.
But at the odds, you’re better off going with Namibia. If they can bat second, and Afghanistan may let them, they may have a real chance.
It’s worth remembering that just about every game has been won by the chaser and if there’s dew on the wicket (there wasn’t in Afghanistan’s game against Pakistan), the Afghan trio of spinners may find things hard.
Namibia have some good hitters in the side and if the target is around 140 they have a decent chance.
Or at least a better chance than their odds suggest.
And here’s our Pure Win review where we tell you all you need to know about one of India’s top betting sites.
Not many of these Namibian batsmen will have faced the likes of Khan, Nabi and Rahman with all their varieties and changes of pace, not to mention the ability to turn the ball both ways.
The exception is, you guessed it, David Wiese.
He will have played against these guys in T20 franchise leagues around the world so is better prepared than anyone else to know how to play them.
He’s also their best batsman full stop so a good selection at 4.33 to top score for them.
