Lucknow Super Giants vs Chennai Super Kings Betting Odds

For my cricket betting tips on this game, I’m going with Lucknow to win it. I like their top order, wasn’t too impressed with CSK’s opening day performance and prefer to take a gamble on the outsiders here at the current odds.

I’ve also got my prediction on the toss winner market and the usual Hot Bet, which is on CSK’s six-loving all-rounder Moeen Ali, making his debut for the season.

HOT BET! Moeen Ali to be CSK Top Batsman  5.83 10CRIC

Lucknow Super Giants vs Chennai Super Kings Winner Prediction

Recommended Bet: Back Lucknow Super Giants to win @ 2.18 with Parimatch

It’s true that CSK will be better for the availability of Moeen Ali, while Lucknow will continue to have to make do without their trio of Stoinis, Holder and Mayer.

That’s a problem for Lucknow but not one that can’t be managed. Even with Lewis batting out of position, that Rahul/De Kock/Lewis Top 3 looks like it could cause some damage and sooner or later those three will put on or chase, a really big total.

CSK may take some time to adapt to life under Jadeja and just don’t look quite the side they were last year.

In other words, there’s not much to choose between these two but if it’s a high-scoring game, which it could well be, it’s perhaps Lucknow who have the batsmen better suited to that.

More to the point, chasing should be a big advantage either way and so it makes sense to go with the outsider, who will almost go favourites just for winning the toss and batting second.

It’s tight but Lucknow are our match winner pick.

LSG vs CSK Hot Bet

Recommended Bet: Back Moeen Ali to top score for CSK @ 5.83 with 10CRIC

Ali could be straight into the action here and could well bat at his customary position at number three, like he did last year.

Admittedly, he hasn’t batted much of late and hasn’t played properly since February when he was playing in a T10 tournament.

But he’s not the sort of man to get too rusty from not playing and the way he plays, he may just need two or three big hits to get himself going and then make 40 or 50.

It’s worth remembering that Gaikwad’s excellent IPL record is in the UAE and not India. And that Devon Conway is still very new to the IPL.

So the experienced Ali may not have much to beat, yet is a really good price to be CSK top batsman, at 5.83.

Lucknow Super Giants Recent Form

Lucknow Super Giants lost on Monday to fellow newcomers Gujarat in what was a really good game.

It’s impossible for Lucknow to have got off to a worst start.

They lost skipper and star batsman KL Rahul to the very first ball of the match, with Quinton de Kock and Evin Lewis soon following him to the dugout for not that many runs after Mohammad Shami’s superb opening spell for Gujarat.

That they got to a respectable score was down to fine efforts from youngster Adush Badoni and the far more experienced Deepak Hooda.

They each scored fifties when the team was in trouble and Lucknow will feel better about their chances with those two there because their middle-order was a cause for concern going into the tournament.

It was below a par score on a good Mumbai track but to be fair to Lucknow, they did a decent job of defending it.

And at one stage, they were favourites with Gujarat wobbling, before some big hitting from Rahul Tewatia and David Miller saw them home.

They lost but there were some positives to take away from the game.

Team News

It didn’t help matters that they were missing important overseas players.

They’ll have to make do without Marcus Stoinis for a while longer, who is on duty for Australia in an ODI Series in Pakistan. He may miss two more matches.

Two further absentees are West Indies pair Kyle Mayers and Jason Holder, fresh from their excellent win in the Test series against England.

The pair of them miss this match too but should be available for the next one. They’ll be sorely missed, especially Holder, who always offers great balance to any side.

Evin Lewis, normally an opener, batted at three last time so let’s see if they carry on going with that approach.

They fielded just three overseas players last time (Lewis, de Kock and Chameera) but they do have the option of playing Aussie bowler Andrew Tye if they want.

Player to Watch: Krunal Pandya

It was exactly players like Krunal Pandya who made Mumbai such a winning machine over the last few years.

He was one of several Indian players who know their role very well within the team and delivered more often than not.

Pandya is a left-arm orthodox spinner who can also bat in the middle-order. Proof of that is that he has four centuries in domestic cricket to his name, though he does have just the one fifty in IPL cricket.

And he’s not necessarily a big wicket-taker, either. 52 wickets in 85 IPL matches is decent but not fantastic.

Instead, it’s his economy rate that’s rock solid and in six seasons of IPL cricket, he’s never gone for more than eight an over across a full season.

So with that good economy rate, sharp fielding and some good lower order hitting, he’s a key player for Lucknow.

It’s 6.45 with 10CRIC that he’s their top bowler in the game.

Lucknow’s Likely XI

De Kock, Rahul, Lewis, Pandey, Hooda, Badoni, Pandya, Chammera, Mohsin Khan, Bishnoi, Avesh Khan.

Chennai Super Kings Recent Form

Only MS Dhoni will know why he resigned the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings on the eve of the tournament.

But in the process, he may just be giving the great Ravindra Jadeja (his successor) just that little bit too much to do.

Jadeja was already going to have a bigger role to play this year by batting higher up the order and is a genuine all-rounder, so you would have thought he had enough on his plate already.

Ironically, it was Dhoni who had a good game in defeat to KKR, not Jadeja.

Dhoni rolled back the years to smash 50 off 38 to give CSK a fighting chance but their total of 131/5 was never going to be enough. Jadeja had a quiet game with a slow 26 off 28 and no wickets to his name, though he was economical.

So they start with a loss but they’ve been here before and have both the players and experience to get back on track.

Team News

They badly missed Moeen Ali last time so will be delighted to have him back and ready to go after he had to quarantine ahead of the first match.

He’ll come straight into the team and it’s likely to be Mitchell Santner making way.

Dwayne Bravo is now the highest wicket-taker in IPL history after a superb spell of 3/20 against KKR but they’ll be aware that they have the option of Englishman Chris Jordan instead, if they want it.

But for the time being, Ali is likely to be the only change.

Player to Watch: Moeen Ali

One of the big reasons why CSK won last year was Moeen Ali.

Normally batting at three, his fearless approach and clean hitting gave their innings impetus and momentum and even though he didn’t make many big scores, the runs he did get were always quick ones, as shown by his season strike rate of 137.

And of course he’s an extremely accurate bowler, meaning his presence in the side gives the team additional balance.

Alongside Jadeja and Gaikwad, he’s very much one of theie players who makes things tick.

Ali is 9.5 to be man-of-the-match with Betway.

And here’s our Betway review, where we look at what this Indian betting site is all about.

CSK’s Likely XI

Gaikwad, Conway, Ali, Uthappa, Rayudu, Jadeja, Dhoni, Bravo, Dube, Milne, Deshpande.

Venue & conditions

Brabourne isn’t often used in the IPL so we don’t have a huge amount to go by here.

But what we do know is that it was the venue for Delhi’s win over Mumbai.

The Indians scored 177/5 and after being in deep trouble in the middle overs, Delhi eventually chased that with just two overs to spare thanks to some big hitting from Axar Patel and to a lesser extent, Lalit Yadav.

So the signs are that it’s a good wicket where you can score heavily at the back end of an innings; a typical Indian pitch.

With all of the first four matches being won by the chasing side, the captain winning the toss will surely want to field first.
